Clubs sign new talent in preparation for Champions League
Liverpool are preparing for the start of the 2008/2009 Champions League season by signing fresh talent to the club. The Premiership club are looking to strengthen their bench as they look ahead to a long season which will include having to negotiate the 3rd qualifying round of the 2008/2008 Champions League.
Amongst the new signings is David Ngog, a French under-19 international from PSG. While the young striker spent the majority of the 2007/2008 season warming the bench of the Paris based side, he has been a prolific goal scorer at international level.
Other new signings include Spanish right-back Emmanuel Mendy, back-up goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, and full-backs Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena.
Meanwhile FC Porto are also beefing up their squad in preparation for the 2008/2009 Champions League tournament. Their latest signing is Brazilian striker Givanildo Viera de Souza, from Uruguayan club CA Rentistas. The young player, nicknamed 'The Hulk', is rumoured to have cost FC Porto €5.5m.
Despite being signed to Rentistas, de Souza has spent the last three seasons on loan to J League side Tokyo Verdy 1969, where he scored 37 goals in 43 games. He joins new signings Cristian Săpunaru and Freddy Guarín at the Lisbon based club.
