Schevchenko returns to AC Milan

Andriy Schevchenko is returning to AC Milan after an unsuccesful spell with Premier League giants Chelsea.

The Ukranian forward enjoyed seven successful seasons with AC Milan before Chelsea purchased him from the Italian club. Schevchenko proved unable to perform in London, and never found top form in the year and a half he spent with Chelsea.

"Chelsea have agreed terms for Andriy Shevchenko to return to AC Milan. Details of the agreement will remain confidential," Chelsea announced on their website.

AC Milan's chief executive, Adriano Galliani, was delighted with the prospect of Schevchenko returning to the San Siro, telling reporters: “After a series of frenetic phone calls during the whole day, we reached an agreement with Chelsea. Tomorrow he will be in Milan, Monday he will undergo a medical and then sign a contract."

The announcement of Schevchenko's transfer comes just days after reports had surfaced claiming that Chelsea had refused to release the Ukranian on loan to Milan. It appears that AC Milan subsequently caved in and signed a permanent transfer with Chelsea.

"We have managed to bring home a player who has scored the most goals in our shirt in the last 50 years," Galliani told a Milan based television station.
