Redknapp denies Hammers return

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has moved quickly to dispel rumours that he is considering a return to his former club West Ham United.

Redknapp acted as manager at the Hammers for 7 years before departing for Portsmouth, leading Hammers to 5th place in the Premier League in 1999.

In recent days reports have surfaced claiming that current West Ham coach Alan Curbishley's position at the club is under threat, and that Redknapp is the preferred candidate to fill his position.

“It's an absolute load of rubbish," was Redknapp's response to speculation that he was on his way back to Upton Park. "A few people have rung me up in the last couple of days but I've never spoken to anybody about it.”

Fans might be forgiven for thinking Redknapp might be considering jumping ship after the FA Cup winning manager watched his side put to the sword by Chelsea in a 4-0 defeat on Sunday.

However Redknapp was adamant that his future lay with Portsmouth, telling reporters: "We are building a team here and want to have another good season."
