Arsenal win, Liverpool stumble
Arsenal successfully navigated a tricky game against Holland's FC Twente last night, taking a 2-0 win in the away leg of their third qualifying round tie.
While the clubs appeared evenly matched in the first half, it was Arsenal who came to the fore in the second half as William Gallas socred off a free kick on 65 minutes, followed by Emmanuel Adebayor 8 minutes from time.
The match could easily have ended in a draw if either of Romano Denneboom's attempts on goal had been successfully converted. The Dutch youngster threatened throughout the first half, but was unable to register his chances on the scoreboard.
While Arsenal have all but qualified for the Champions League, Liverpool left themselves with a lot of work to do after drawing with Standard Liege in Belgium last night.
Liverpool went into the match as strong favourites, but ended up needing a brilliant effort from goalkeeper Pepe Reina to deflect a barrage of shots on the Liverpool goal. The night's key moment saw Reina save a penalty by Dante Bonfim, keeping Liverpool's Champions League dreams alive as they head to the home leg of their 3rd qualifying round tie.
