Gerrard hits century mark as Liverpool thrash PSV
Liverpool romped to a 3-1 win over Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday night, taking second place in Group D behind Atletico Madrid.
The match saw Steven Gerrard reach a personal milestone, as he scored his 100th goal for Liverpool. Robbie Keane also contributed to the score by finding the back of the net for the first time since joining Liverpool.
“It's fantastic for me, but we came to win the game and to get in the driving seat in the group,'' Gerrard told Sky Sports. “If you win matches and play well, your belief grows and we're very confident we can win.''
Dirk Kuyt scored the first goal of the evening for Liverpool 5 minutes into the match. Keane then silenced his critics by firing home the club's second goal on 34 minutes.
Gerrard scored Liverpool's final goal off a free kick on 76 minutes before PSV pulled back a goal through Danny Koevermans on 78 minutes.
"It was almost the perfect night,' Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said after the match.
“It was a really good game for us with lots of positive things, a solid performance with balance and quality. Now we must keep on winning. This is a very good start for us, different maybe from last season when we did not start our group matches that well."
