GROUP G
FC Internazionale Milano
Two-time Champions League winners Inter Milan find themselves located in a tough group for the 2007/2008 Champions League. Although the Italian champions are widely tipped to progress to the semi-finals, they will need to play at their legendary best if they wish to top Group G.
The Inter Milan squad features only five Italian-born players, and its recent successes have been based largely on the performances of a crop of world class Argentinean and Brazilian players, including captain Javier Zanetti and new signing Hernán Crespo.
PSV Eindhoven
1988 Champions League winners PSV Eindhoven will see the 2007/2008 UEFA Champions League as their best opportunity in recent years to make a genuine challenge for Europe's biggest prize. The club will be confident after winning the Dutch first division, and good performances against Inter Milan will virtually guarantee Eindhoven a berth in the knockout rounds.
PSV Eindhoven have prospered over recent years despite losing a crop of top players to wealthier clubs. Their success has been based on excellent talent scouting that has seen fine players like Belgian Timmy Simons, and youngsters Jefferson Farfán and Edison Méndez.
CSKA Moscow
Top Russian club CSKA Moscow have never won the Champions League, but did prove their class with a UEFA Cup title in 1995. Located in a tough group, the Russians will need to beat former champions PSV Eindhoven to have any chance of progressing to the next round.
The CSKA Moscow squad does not feature many big name footballers and is features a majority of Russian-born players with a small contingent of Brazilian and Eastern European imports. The starting attack, comprising Brazilian international Vágner Love and his compatriot Jô, is good enough to break open any defence.
Fenerbahçe SK
Turkish Champions Fenerbahçe S.K. round off Group G. In recent years Fenerbahçe have proved more than capable of matching and beating Europe's top clubs, winning the UEFA Cup in 2000. Fenerbahçe's presence in Group G makes it difficult to predict a group winner.
Fenerbahçe's resurgence over the last decade has largely been due to an influx of top foreign players who have had a powerful influence on the club's style of play. At present Kennet Andreson and famous Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos continue this trend, providing Fenerbahçe with the skills and experience to challenge for Europe's top honours.
