Giggs no longer has the speed to be effective while playing on the touchline, and the Manchester United veteran is likely to be switched to the midfield or forwards where he can use his experience and street smarts to direct play.

Ferguson went on to assure fans that Giggs future at the club was not under threat, and that the 34 year old still has a couple more seasons in him.

Giggs is set to play at central forward for the Red Devils in upcoming fixtures, and has already shown aptitude for the position with a brilliant goal against Middelsborough in the League Cup.

"The days for Ryan at nearly 35 years of age to tramp up and down the touchline are gone” Ferguson told reporters this week. “He can maybe do it the odd time but I think that's beyond him now. All we have to do is manage it.”

“He is looking absolutely brilliant just now but we want to have him nice and fresh at the end of the season because he can decide games for you," Ferguson concluded. "That's the great quality he has."
